“I’ll Fight That Battle”

Petr Ginz has really been on my mind lately and I know why. Late last year, I had written down what kind of “battles” he fights. He fights mine, and I know that sounds odd. Let me explain.

Have you heard of the whole “You need to fight your demons?” He fights mine, and I know he does.

I had written down that he was against a demon, that looked very much human, but he wasn’t a demon that I was familiar with.

He would have to make a deal with a demon, knowing that my life was on the line.

He knew, that if he didn’t win, I’d die. But here’s the thing, Petr never misses, his aim, IS ALWAYS SPOT ON.

He knows that the risk is never too great for him, he’s fought these battles before.

He wore his heart on his sleeve and he knew how to defend it.

He had been fighting battles since I guess I had heard of him. His late sister, Chava (Eva) told me that if I was lucky enough to see said sheild, that meant that he cared about you, loved you and was protecting me.

I have seen him with said shield many times and believe me, he means it.

I understood his purpose when I saw him with that shield: He wants to protect me, help me and he loves me.

When he usually is propsed to “fight” — meaning when there is a “demon” or a “monster”- there are “unwritten rules” that go with this.

Let me give you a great example:

Petr knew that he had to fight and luckily, there was a “rule” that he could use “backup”. For him, other victims of the Holocaust will come together and fight these “demons” or whatever the hell they are.

But Petr and the “demon” stood several feet apart and there, Petr Ginz, and the “Demon” had to wait, for the “ref” to go “REMEMBER! YOU KNOW THE RULES!” When the ref said it was ready to “go”- Petr gets his shield ready.

“GO!” The ref said.

Petr strikes first and his aim IS SPOT ON, his the “demon” and the shield comes back to him.

Then it’s the demon’s turn and Petr uses his shield to block it. Then, it’s “free range” they start fighting and Petr is not giving up.

He wins and when he defeats the demon, he is able to tear him up one side and down the other with his teeth.

Petr does this more times than we think, and sometimes, we don’t even realize it.

Petr is always “fighting”- but not always. Sometimes, he’s on the “lookout” and he wants to make sure we are safe.

When October 7th happened, and I was so scared for Chava’s (His younger sister, who survived) family, who all live in Israel- I was scared to death. When I went to sleep that night, both Chava and Petr appeared, holding hands- letting me know that her family was safe and they were: I got an email from Chava’s daughter, telling me that her family was in Canada.

THANK GOD!

But, it’s harder and harder to think about how I can always be so lucky to have him, I don’t deserve him and I know I don’t- but he says different.

I fight for him and he fights for me.

With Petr, he will always continue fight and some ask, is he ever tired? He does rest and recoups, but tired? No.

He wants to make sure I’m ok!
