The Wolf’s On Film?
The book Behind the Words: The Story of the Wolf Siblings has gotten the attention of some student filmmakers.
The book is not yet published, but the stories of the Wolf siblings has touched some of these filmmakers.
Felicitas in particular, is a story that reaches beyond life in hiding from the Nazis. She left for the United States in August of 1968 and never went back to the Czech Republic. There’s so many questions on how she managed to secure her citizenship to the United States. I found some paperwork for the naturalization in 1968.
But when I was approached by some filmmakers, I wanted to make sure they had the funds to make a short film about the Wolf’s. But mostly importantly, they wanted to make a film documenting how I researched my book and all the phone calls, emails and research it took to get this book written.
The thing is trying to get people cast in this short film. They asked me who I wanted, and really, I said “unrealistically” — Darci Shaw, Thomasin Mckenzie, Kit Connor or Walker Scobell for our cast :) The other thing they proposed was to go to the Czech Republic to film the locations where the Wolf’s were. The problem is trying to get flights over there and are the borders open? I haven’t figured that out yet.
The students want me to try to keep everything I have documented. I told them I have.
With this, they will try to see if we can appeal to the actors and see if they can be in the film/documentary.
With all this exciting news, I want the book to come out first, but if it doesn’t, I’ll go ahead and work with the students :)
